About this item
An extremely fine large bronze statue of David by Louis Auguste Moreau of David. Holding his sling about to slay Goliath. Dressed wearing a pelt, standing on a rocky outcrop with a water carrier at his feet. Expertly cast with superb detail, wonderful rich lustrous patina mounted on an ebonized stand.
This model was cast in various sizes of which this is the largest.
Louis Auguste Moreau, was a French sculptor from a family of famous sculptors stretching back 3 generations. Best known for his bronze-cast figurines. His allegorical Art Nouveau works often depicted women, children, cherubs, and historical figures adorned with floral motifs and ornaments, and was influential to other artists working at the time. Born in Dijon, France in 1855 to a celebrated family of sculptors, including his father, Auguste Moreau, he went on to regularly exhibit his work at the Paris Salon from 1861 on. The artist died in 1919 in France.
