This is a compact antique coffer. An English, oak carved chest or trunk, dating to the early Georgian period. Superb coffer with fine detail.Displays a desirable aged patina. Highly carved, two panel chest. Select oak with fine grain interest.
Stout lid resplendent with wisps of medullary rays. Edges decorated with fantastic, naive chipping. Stiles and muntins presented with ornate scroll and acanthus motif Inset frieze panels with diamond foliate carving, complemented by patera
Lid opens upon original wire hook hinge. Iron lock escutcheon with broad clasp - key absent. Interior benefits from an enclosed candle box - superb medullary rays within. Raised upon four square section stiles
This is a wonderful, early Georgian antique coffer with copious craved detail and quality stock figuring. Solid joints and construction, delivered waxed, polished and ready for the delivery.
