    This is an ancient Roman gold Solidus of emperor Valens, dating to 364 - 378 A.D.

    DN VALENS P F AVG, pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust right

    GLORIA REI  PVBLICAE, enthroned figures of Roma facing (on l.) and Constantinopolis l. (on r.), holding between them shield inscribed VOT/V/MVLT/X, each holding sceptre in l. hand, Constantinopolis with r. foot on the prow of galley

    This coin was struck at the Nicomedia mint, mintmark SMNI. This coin has seen some circulation and exhibits consistent wear and light graffiti scratches. A good example that had been graded as 'good very fine' by Baldwins.
