    About this item

An amethyst glass rolling pin with cold painted decoration. Glass rolling pins were made in a variety of colours in both Nailsea and Sunderland. This one is probably from Sunderland but it is unusual to find one in amethyst glass. It is painted in red, black and gilt, with flowers and foliage and the motto “For A Friend”. This type of decoration was quite prone to wear but this example is still in good condition. One end of the rolling pin is open so that it could be filled with cold water which was an aid when rolling out pastry.

It is in very good condition.

    English. Date c.1860
