About this item
Holmegaard Palet range of Spice Jars & Oil bottle.
Designed by Michael Bang in 1968, the range was kept in production until 1976. The bright colours and modern shapes were made just right for that time and were a great success in Denmark.
Holmegaard of Denmark in the 1960s consisted of four factories, Holmegaard, Kastrup. Hellerup and Odense. They all joined together under the Holmegaard banner with Kastrup closing in 1968. Their chief designer was Per Lutken whilst Michael Bang was appointed designer at Odense.
This set consists of an oil bottle with clear glass stopper and a further six glass spice jars with cork stoppers. These are
Peber – Pepper
Vitaminer – Vitamins
Kanel – Cinnamon
Olie – Oil
Paprika
Småting – Little things
Carry – Curry (Mispelt, curry in Danish is normally spelt with a 'K', Karry)
Height 7cm
Width 8cm
In excellent condition, hardly used and clean as a whistle inside. Slight chip out of the top of one of the cork stoppers. Hand blown into moulds so all slightly different in colour and size. Finished off with a white glass core. Each glass label written in Danish, and my favourite of the spice jars, ‘Småting’ – which means little things.
I purchased this lovely set at Copenhagen’s fleamarket in Frederiksborggade during the Summer.
