    About this item

A  great collection of  19th century Mercury glass witch balls. Historically, witch balls were hung in cottage windows in 17th and 18th century England and other former colonies to ward off evil spirits, witches, evil spells , ill fortune and bad spirits. Some examples can be seen in shop windows as well, often not for sale as they are highly prized. Also sometimes referred to as gazing balls they were used for divination and scrying to try and fortell  furture events. Highly decorative and sought after these balls make for an interesting conversation piece.
