    About this item

A very unique Victorian cast iron combination fire with a decorative top piece. The fire is of a good size and would be ideal for a living or bedroom. The combination fire has the pattern name "The Morton" and the fire has a kite dating mark stating that the fire was made on 30th February 1881. The top piece was an additional item offered as an extra and was from a later date. The top piece has the design name "The Orchard" and the registered design number RD31836, dates it to 1885. The top piece has a pretty shape with intricate designs, typical of the era, with birds, urns and fruit. The side columns have decorative finials. The top piece rests on the fire mantel and has fixing lugs for the item to be attached to the wall. The main fire also has an Adam style design with swags, urns and flowers. The canopy smoke hood is a particular feature of the fire and it has a cherub face and swag design. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a lovely finish. The fire is in very good, solid condition but there are some small signs of age and use. The back has surface rust as expected. There are some casting marks, knocks and pitting and some small scratches, especially to the mantel top. One fixing lug was broken and has been replaced with a metal one. The top front bar has been broken and is missing. The fire is a very beautiful and unusual item highlighting the best of Victorian design. The fire is perfect for a period home and is a very desirable piece.
