FC0171 RECLAIMED DECORATIVE ART NOUVEAU CAST IRON COMBINATION FIRE

An elegant and attractive, reclaimed, Art Nouveau cast iron combination fire. The fire is of suitable size for a bedroom and is now for decorative purposes only. The fire has a very pretty design, typical of the Art Nouveau era, featuring a shaped smoke hood with Art Nouveau flower and leaves on either side. There is a column top detail and flowers in the centre of the fire, under the mantel. The legs have a fluted design. There are lugs on both sides, under the mantel for fixings. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a nice finish. The back of the fire has an RD number, which is slightly hard to read but is probably RD407771, dating the fire to 1903. 

The fire is in solid antique condition with some signs of age and some repaired damage. The front bars sustained some damage and they have had repairs to both the top bar and the bottom bar, where repairs can be seen underneath. The repairs have been carried out to a high standard but they can be seen when looking at the fire (pictures 12 & 13). The fire brick has a chip in the bottom left corner which can be seen. The fire has a replacement wooden top plate that has been sprayed black, making the fire suitable for decorative purposes only. The iron has some scratches and casting marks. The back of the fire has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire is a very nice example of Art Nouveau design and the perfect item for adding period character to a bedroom.
