FC0180 A RECLAIMED VICTORIAN CAST IRON COMBINATION FIRE

A beautiful, reclaimed, cast iron combination fire likely to date to the late Victorian era, C.1880-1890. The fire is very ornate and has a fantastic design with pretty ferns on each side, under the mantel and there is a decorative corbel in the centre. The fire has an arched opening that has repeating leaf border. The mantel side and front edges have moulded detailing. The fire retains its shaped front bars, grill and decorative top plate. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a good finish. The fire is in very good reclaimed condition, especially considering its age, with some small signs of age and wear as expected. The fire has some casting marks and pitting, especially to the mantel and above the fire opening. The fire brick has some knocks and wear. The top plate has some damage where there is a break to the bottom edge. The back of the fire has surface rust, as expected. The iron has some small marks and scratches. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire is a very pretty example of period design, it is of the ideal size for a reception room or larger bedroom and it would add great character to a fireplace.
