    About this item

A very pretty and fine quality, reclaimed, cast iron early Edwardian combination fire. The fire is of a particularly lovely design and is very ornate. The fire has an attractive leaf and flower design in the centre, under the mantel and has a curved smoke hood with acanthus leaves. The fire has a repeating flower border around the fire opening and there are pretty flowers than run down the length of the legs. There is corbel style detailing under the mantel and the centre corbel has a groove above it, designed to accommodate a bolt that secures the mantel from the front. There are two fixing lugs, one on either side, under the mantel. The fire retains its original front bars and fire brick. The back of the fire has a registered design number, RD405426, dating it to 1903.The fire has been blacked and polished and it has a very nice finish.

The fire is in good reclaimed condition but it has had some repaired damage, as expected of reclaimed antiques. The right hand side of the mantel has had a repair to a large break. The underneath of the mantel has plates for securing it and filler has been applied to the top. The repair is of a good quality but it can be seen. The left hand side of the mantel has had a knock and there is a small chip missing from the front edge. The base of the front bars have a crack to the right hand side. The iron has some casting marks and pitting. The fire brick has some knocks and chips. The back of the fire has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire is a very fine example of Edwardian design and it is unusual to find a fire with such a pretty style. The fire would be make a lovely showpiece in a home.
