About this item
A tall, reclaimed, Victorian cast iron combination fire. The fire has a very elegant design with swags and bows and a medallion with a female carrying urns in the centre. There are decorative panels above the fire opening with flowers and squares and the top of the fire opening has a nice shape. Below the mantel is a panel that has been fitted with stunning blue tiles. The fire has curved front bars, a smoke flap and an ashpan cover. The fire has a Registered Design number, RD111451, dating the fire to 1888. The mantel is a good quality wooden replacement, painted black, as the original was broken. The iron has been blacked and polished and it has a nice finish. The combination fire is in good reclaimed condition with some signs of age and some damage, as expected. The iron has some casting marks, pitting and small holes. The fire brick has a large crack but it is stable. The tiles have some chips, knocks and scratches and there is crazing to the tile glaze. The area underneath the mantel has some residue concrete. The back of the fire has some surface rust. The right hand fixing lug is missing. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire is of the ideal size for a reception room and it has a very fine Victorian design. The combination fire will add great character to a fireplace and will make a fantastic statement piece for a room.
