About this item

Introduction to French Copper Cookware

French copper cookware has long been regarded as the standard of excellence in European kitchens. Heavy-gauge copper provided even heat distribution, while tin linings and hand-riveted iron handles made these pans both practical and long-lasting. Such pieces were used extensively by chefs and households throughout the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Description of the Saucepan

This large saucepan has a straight-sided copper body with a wide mouth and flat base. The interior retains its tin lining, now worn from age and use. A long flat iron handle, ending in a pierced loop for hanging, is attached with three broad rivets that pass directly through the copper wall.

The exterior surface shows the characteristic hammering and patination of heavy copper, with areas of green verdigris forming in places. Its generous proportions (Height 24cm, Length 42cm, Diameter 22cm) made it suitable for substantial cooking tasks in a professional or domestic kitchen.

Condition

Tin lining worn with darkened patches. Exterior with surface wear, one dent. Handle rusted but secure. Structurally robust overall.

Why You Should Buy

It is a genuine piece of French kitchen tradition, built for hard use and still carrying the weight and character of its age.
