A nineteenth century, French copper stockpot with a folding steel handle. This type of stockpot was originally designed for use on an open fire and would have hung above the fire. This example is made from a very heavy gauge of copper, has castellated seams and dates from c.1850. The steel handle is attached by copper fittings and there is a flat, strap handle to the lid. The base of the pan is slightly rounded, making it impractical for most modern day stoves, so now it is purely decorative. It is in very good condition.
