About this item
A long handled, French copper straining, or skimming spoon. This type of skimmer was mainly used for skimming the scum which rises to the top of the pan when making jams and preserves. For this purpose they were not tinned. This one is made from a heavy gauge of copper and it dates from c.1880. It has a turned end to the handle, which is shaped like the top of a shepherd’s crook, and it is in very good condition.
