About this item
A large, 19th century, French copper cooking pot. Originally this was tinned inside and it would have had a lid. It is quite an unusual shape and could have been used simply as a large casserole or it may have had a specific purpose such as confiting duck. It is well made, from a very heavy gauge of copper, and it has castellated seams around the base and up the side. There is a large copper ring handle attached, for hanging the pan when not in use, and it dates from c.1860. It is in very good condition but the tinning, to the interior, is now badly worn so it could no longer be used for cooking. However, it would make a very attractive large jardiniere, as a table centrepiece, or it could be used as a large wine or champagne cooler for party time.
