    About this item

A large, French copper sugar bowl. This has seen some serious use, which is evident from the amount of pitting to the copper on the underside of the bowl. It would have been used for caramelising sugar in the sweet making process and, as such, it would have been heated to very high temperatures.

It is made from a very heavy gauge of copper, with a planished finish, and dates from c. 1860. There are lovely, wide, castellated seams around the base and up one side and it has a very simple form of brass handle to either side.

Other than the pitting it is in very good condition.

Dimensions: Diameter 44.5cm. Height of pan 23cm. Total width including the handles 56.5cm.

Price includes postage within the U.K. Shipping to the U.S.A. add £80. Most of Western Europe add £30.
