The Essentials
Indo-Persian Qajar decorative wall charger Mid to late 19th century Hand-hammered copper with engraved and tinned decoration Four-figure musical scene with harp, trumpet and string players With antique surface wear, and a the hanger is looseDescription
This is a large Indo-Persian Qajar wall charger, hand engraved in the qalamzani tradition with a four-figure musical gathering beneath a three-bay pointed arcade. An upright harpist, a trumpeter and string players sit around an elevated bearded figure in a bazm, a courtly gathering centred on music and company.
Fine cut lines, punched shading and the contrast of silver-grey tin, reddish copper and darkened ground give definition to the robes, faces and brickwork. Birds and small animals inhabit the surrounding floral scroll.
