About this item
A nineteenth century, Nailsea glass rolling pin. This type of glass was often known as “end of day” glass. At the end of the day, when there was a mix of coloured glass left over in the glassworks, it would be formed together and made into novelty items. Originally this was hollow and would have been filled with cold water to keep the pastry chilled when rolling it out. However, for display purpose this has been filled with salts so that the colours in the glass look more vibrant. It date from c.1850 and is in excellent condition.
