About this item
Now and again something comes along which takes you back....as this wonderful example of an early oak joyned mural cuboard from the 17thc did....it is so complete in every aspect...it has the original hand made hinges, handles and the lock... which still works...! The colour is a natural patination that aged oak goes after many years of domestic use....These useful cupboards were a very important part of the 17thc way of life as they were used to keep the highly prized spices and herbs in.... a well stocked spice cupboard was a valuable asset to the manor house cook....Spice cupboards like this one always had doors to keep the spices and herbs dry and free from mildew ....usually hung on walls simply by nailing them or with later iron brackets.....
English. C1670-90.
