About this item
EARLY CHILDS PAINTED MUG
NAMED MUG ~ GEORGE
Sunderland England ~ c. 1830
This is a whimsical little child's painted mug, circa 1830. This diminutive piece stands 2 1/2 " tall x 2 5/8 " wide with an applied loop handle. The mug is light weight and beautifully potted with a thick pearlware glaze.
The mug is hand painted under the glaze in brown and pink luster. The name " GEORGE " is painted in brown surrounded by an imaginative landscape in pink luster.
The piece is unmarked. It most certainly was made in the Sunderland district of coastal northern England. Mugs like this were made as gifts for good children, rewards of merit and as Christening mugs.
The condition of this exceptional mug is EXCELLENT, clean and bright with no wear. The cup will make a great addition to your collection of children's dishes or for a good boy George.
