About this item
This lovely sterling silver berry spoon was made by James and Josiah Williams of Exeter and it carries the hallmarkmark for 1861. The ornate decoration leads from the fiddle pattern top of the handle down to the embossed bowl which features, amongst other fruit, a pineapple, an orange and some grapes. The bowl has been given a gilt wash to protect the silver from the fruit acids. The overall length of the spoon is 234 mm (9.25 inches), with the bowl measuring 52 mm (2 inches) at its widest, and it stands 32 mm (1.25 inches) high. It weighs 87 gms (2.79 troy ounces) and is in very good condition.
