French Art Nouveau Rene Lalique Grey Stained Dragonfly Knife Rest C1919

An very rare and very early signed (R Lalique France -see image 5) original grey stained Rene Lalique 'Libellule' knife rest -depicting a dragonfly in flight, dating from 1919 (See Marcilhac ref: 3602). Dragonflies are one of the most sought after and collected images for Rene Lalique collectors and this is possibly the best example -as a knife rest (very fragile) they rarely survive in good condition -this example is in excellent condition

Rene Lalique was possibly the most famous of all glass makers -the most collectable pieces by him are those produced during his lifetime (ie pre 1945), most of these are signed, like this piece, R Lalique - just visible on the lower edge of the roundel in picture 2.
