    About this item

    "The Berlin Wall"
A Perspex Mounted Fragment of The Berlin Wall
    Impressed gilt lettered labelling
    West German
    1989

    Measures:-
9 cm high x 10 cm wide x 3.5 cm deep (the curved Perspex mount)

A souvenir fragment of spray-painted concrete, taken from the graffitied surface of the West German side of the Berlin Wall. Affixed with epoxy resin adhesive to a curved clear plastic polycarbonate mount. The impressed gilt lettering reading in German, English, Japanese and French:-

"die Mauer / the wall / 壁 / le mur / 13.9.1961 - 9.11.1989 / Berlin CHECKPOINT CHARLIE" with the 'Little bear' symbol of Berlin.

After the fall of the Berlin Wall, these fascinating objects were fashioned in their thousands by opportunistic West German souvenir manufacturers using fragments splintered from the structure as it was demolished by delighted protesters. Has a genuine claim to being a 'piece of history'.
