Folk‑Carved Wooden Bird Match Holder — Mid‑20th Century
A charming mid‑20th‑century folk‑carved wooden bird with warm patina and inset recess for a matchbox — full of character and craftsmanship.
Full Description
A delightful hand‑carved wooden bird, likely dating from the mid‑20th century, with stylised feather detailing and a rich, polished surface. The carving captures the bird’s form with simple, expressive lines and a long beak reminiscent of a kingfisher.
To the reverse, a recessed compartment reveals its practical purpose — designed to hold a small matchbox, making it both decorative and functional. The piece embodies the warmth and ingenuity of traditional folk craft, with a mellow patina that speaks to its age and use.
