Georgian gilt Seal with “Sophia” intaglio 1780

This seal has a base carved with an intaglio and was designed to be used with hot wax for sealing letters.

I have made an impression of this seal using hot wax to show that the seal works as intended and also to give a clearer image of the intaglio.

The wax impression comes in a small plastic case and is included with the seal

This small gilt metal seal has a rectangular base set with a black glass stone with a claw setting and engraved with the name “Sophia”

The seal has an ornately carved base with a very unusual fine strut handle and is topped with a suspension loop.

The seal measures 26mm x 14mm x 12mm and is in 90% mint condition –light loss of gilding but still a very nice seal
