About this item
A charming novelty travelling inkwell in the form of a Gladstone bag, dating to the second half of the 19th century. It has a metal frame covered with leather patterned to look like alligator skin, and with an attractive aged patina. It has a false button catch and hinged handle. The bag opens by pushing a hidden leather covered button, revealing the original and complete gilt metal interior, with inner hinged cover concealing the original glass ink bottle. All hinges and catches are in good working order.
