Vintage Japanese copper tea caddy - 茶筒 (Chazutsu) of Takaoka Copperware (Takaoka doki) from Toyama Prefecture, Honshu, Japan.
Handmade by a Takaoka craftsman coppersmith. A planished finish to the outside, the interior tinned. Internal lid with a brass and copper knob. Sealmark to the base.
It is a tradition that these distinctive copper tea caddies are never polished with the intention that they demonstrate the reverence and affection in which they have been held, slowly dulling with usage and gaining the patina of time.
