About this item
This is a superb quality antique French desk, with chair, made from plum pudding mahogany, acajou mouchete, veneers with high quality original ormolu mounts.
It is a stunning desk with beautiful veneers and great care and attention has been taken over the construction.
Fine ormolu mounts such as these are only seen on the best quality desks.
The matching chair has a padded back and seat upholstered in black studded hide.
The inverted breakfront top has a replacement black hide writing surface with gilt and blind tooling.
This is surrounded by a band of mahogany with a bulls nose moulded edge and rounded corners.
It is fitted ormolu plaques to the six corners. The frieze is fitted three drawers to the front and has panelled sides and back.
It stands on 4 turned and fluted legs with ormolu plaques to the top corners of the front legs matching those of the desk.
All the drawers have oak linings, an ogee mould to the front edges and the original fine cast ormolu handles.
The middle drawer operates a central locking system which requires the drawer to be unlocked and slightly open to allow all the other drawers to open and it has the original key.
The pedestals are each fitted four drawers and have fluted columns to the edges with ribbon and leaf mounts to the capitals with ormolu mounts in the fluting. They have plinth bases with squat bun feet.
The sides of the pedestals are panelled and there are exterior and interior vanity panels.
The desk is made in six sections for ease of installation and we have helpful photos to assist the setting up if needed.
