About this item
This is a small antique correspondence table. A Scottish, oak writing desk with skiver, dating to the Aesthetic period, circa 1880.
Diminutive stature, ideal for the reception hall or nook. Displaying a desirable aged patina and in good order. Select Scottish oak shows fine grain interest and wisps of medullary rays. Graced with superb colour, rich biscuit and caramel hues beam beneath the wax polish finish.
Wide top with rolled edge presents an inset writing skiver. Crimson red leather embossed and accentuated with gold tooling. Pair of useful drawers, dressed with brass drop handles over gothic quarterfoil backplates. Both drawers with inset, brass lined locks — in working order, key present.
Drawer boxes in select mahogany with contrasting deep chestnut hues. Stout block shoulders to each corner with rolled beading uniting across the front and rear apron. Offers a kneehole height of 55.5cm (21.75"). Standing upon tapering turned legs, adorned with fluted detail and circular pad feet.
This is a charming antique correspondence table, with diminutive proportion for the smaller room or corner. Superb Scottish stocks provide appealing figuring and colour. Solid joints and construction, delivered waxed, polished and ready for the home.
