    About this item

An exquisite set of four George Walton chairs. Fully and sympathetically restored by our master craftspeople.

New, full grain, premium quality English leather has been softened, edge-bevelled and burnished by hand and finished with studs from Houlès, Paris.

George Henry Walton, who was born in Glasgow, was an exceptionally versatile designer working in interior design, architecture, metalware, wallpapers and carpets. He is known for his Glasgow Style but his work is a little ‘softer’, leaning toward English Arts & Crafts.

He worked alongside Charles Rennie Mackintosh, assisting with some of the designs, at Miss Cranston’s Willow Tearooms and he also designed furniture for Liberty of London.

Houlès designs and creates the finest of trimmings and fabrics. Still family-owned, it was founded in Paris by father and son Félix and André Houlès in 1928. The company, which began with one store at 18 rue Saint-Nicolas, is now established in over 160 countries.

Presidential residences and castles, such as le Château de Versailles, often select Houlès’ passements for their restoration projects.
Louis XVI style or Louis Seize, as it is often referred to, is renowned for its serenity and refinement. The love of the outdoors and nature, during this period, was brought together in furniture, architecture and interior decoration.

We would prefer the chairs remain as a set but they may be sold separately; please do contact us directly for information and assistance.
