    About this item

This is a very unique & rare pen and ink sketch by the renowned Indian artist Isha Mahammad.
It’s unframed, signed in the bottom left corner and dated 2005.
With the soldiers in the background and the woman in the sari crying, it could possibly be a comment on the partition of India postwar.
Mahammad was born in Calcutta 1833, and is regarded as a significant contributor to the modernist art movement in Bengal.
This is an original sketch, maybe a preparatory sketch for a later painting, the artists pencils strokes can still be seen, enable you to understand how he worked.
