About this item
Beautiful pencil drawing on paper, elegant gentleman with hat dressed in the manner of the early 20th century. Characteristic is the hat called "bowler" typical of this historical period. This type of hat was invented by Lord Lock, who in 1850 had it made by the company Bowler and Son. The English term for bowler is in fact bowler. It was later produced by Lock & Co., always with its typical shape: round and rigid dome, and small raised brim at the edges. At the turn of the 1800s and 1900s it acquired more and more importance, and has always been associated with the businessmen of the City, where it is jokingly called Billycoke, from the name of the nephew of the second Earl of Leicester, William Coke, who wore it to go hunting. In the United States of America instead it is called Derby. Italy was also a central country for the production of well-made hats. Dimensions with frame.
