About this item
This is a stunning pine and birch dresser, it dates to around the 1860/80s and is the wonderful quality. The base has 3 graduated drawers either side of a central cupboard with drawer above. It has a beautiful top edged in oak and stands on squashed bun feet. The cupboard door is a single panel and has round brass knob with escutcheon below and working key - this is a miracle, I don’t think I’ve seen a dresser with its original key before. Inside the cupboard is a central shelf. The drawers have brass drip swing handles. The dresser rack has 3 open shelves, the top one being wider than the lower two. The shelves are nice and thick and the back boards behind the shelves are good too. The top of the rack has a lovely shaped skirt and cornice. The rack is possibly not original to the base, or has had the skirt added at a later date. However, it is an excellent match in both colour and style and does have age, it is not a modern addition.
The dresser is in good condition. It stands straight and level. The door hinges are well attached and work as they should. The drawers slide easily. The finish is good. It is great quality, nothing flimsy about it. The top sits on the base flat and level. The feet are well attached and it has an original working key. It’s a nice thing.
The dresser base measures 162cm wide x 58cm deep x 79cm tall. The rack measures 160cm wide and is 124cm tall, the rack shelves are 24cm and 21cm deep. Overall at its largest when together the dresser is 162cm wide x 58cm deep x 203cm tall.
