    About this item

This is a large antique housekeeper's cabinet. An English, oak dresser or sideboard displaying Arts and Crafts taste in the manner of Liberty & Co, dating to the Edwardian period, circa 1910.

Impressive example of the Arts & Crafts movement of the early 20th century. Displays a desirable aged patina throughout. Select oak shows fine grain interest and wisps of medullary rays. Dark stained stocks beneath a quality wax polish finish.

Unmarked as such, crafted in the manner of Liberty & Co of London. Back stand arranged as a glazed cupboard, arcaded display gallery and wide sideboard. Cabinet door with original plate glass with fascinating external strap hinges. Trio of support columns to either side with turned pilasters.

Single, wide drawer sits neatly above a generously sized recess - ideal for a dog cushion. Cabinet to the opposite side with field panel doors, dressed with a small brass lock escutcheon — keys present. Gothic revival overtones present in the form of strap hinges and quarterfoil backplates

Raised upon block feet to each corner beneath a beaded front lower apron.

This is an impressively large antique housekeeper's cabinet, of undeniable country house proportion and strong in taste and influence to the Arts & Crafts movement and Liberty respectively. Solid joints and construction, delivered waxed, polished and ready for the larger home.
