Introduction to Burmese Nat Figures

Burmese Nat figures hold significant importance in Myanmar's spiritual culture, representing guardian spirits and often associated with individuals who died unnaturally. These figures are typically placed in temples and home shrines as symbols of protection and reverence. The craftsmanship involved in creating Nat figures reflects a rich tradition of artistry, with each piece embodying specific cultural meanings and stories.

Description of the Nat Figure

This captivating Burmese Nat wooden carved figure stands at 63 cm tall and features an intricately detailed gilded face, exuding a serene yet powerful expression. The towering headdress is adorned with a chinthe, a mythical creature resembling a lion, known for its protective qualities, with a snarling face and exposed teeth. Stylised wings extend from each shoulder.

The base of the statue bears Burmese inscriptions. The hands are positioned in a mudra, symbolising various meanings in tradition. Likely created in the early to mid-20th century, this piece is a remarkable representation of Burmese artistry, steeped in mysticism and symbolism. It is mostly in good condition, with some small losses.

Why You Should Buy

This Burmese Nat figure stands as a powerful expression of artistry and spirituality. Its impressive height and intricate detailing command attention, making it a striking presence in any room.
