This is a Chinese rooster carving y, made from pale yellow-green jade.
The bird has been carved as a compact standing figure, with a high comb, rounded breast and full tail picked out with shallow feather lines.
As the tenth animal of the Chinese zodiac, the rooster was linked with punctuality, fidelity and the return of daylight.
