About this item
A beautiful fruit wood carving of Jonah and the Whale dating to about the late 18th to early 19th century. It has very fine detail and lovely aged patina. It was probably originally made as a parasol or stick handle and later mounted on this chip carved base. It is in great condition.
A marvellous piece of folk art, probably made on a long voyage by a mariner for his sweetheart.
