About this item
"Robin Hood"
Large 19th Century Staffordshire Flatback Figural Spillvase Grouping
Staffordshire, England
Victorian, Circa 1860
Measures:-
Height: 39 cm
Width: 25 cm
A wonderfully camp and characterful nineteenth century Staffordshire flatback spillvase depicting the folk hero 'Robin Hood' alongside Little John and a spaniel dog. The composition is a rather 'Caledonian' handling of the subject: with their kilts with bear knees and feather bonnets, the gentlemen arguably looking more 'Shetland Islands' than 'Sherwood Forest'!
In the simplest of colourways, very much back in vogue with interior designers.
In reasonable antique condition. Wear consistent with age and usage. Crazing, craquelure and hairlines as expected. Some fritting to the edges. Rubbing and losses/retouching to paint and gilding. Generally sound.
