About this item
A pair of unusual Mending Maid dolls, dating to between the 1930s and 1950s. These novelties were sold in haberdashery shops and provided all the shades of thread ladies might need to mend their stockings. The dolls are each made up of eight different sized spools of thread, each in a slightly different shade, all fastened together with metal pins. They have paper faces, one of which bears a provisional patent number dating it to 1937.
One of the dolls was made in England by Peri-Lustre, while the other probably originated in the US.
The dolls are unused and is in good condition. They are rare survivors from an age of "Make Do and Mend".
