FB0111 AN ENORMOUS RECLAIMED ANTIQUE CAST IRON FIRE BACK

An extremely large, reclaimed, antique fire back. The fire back is approximately 150 years old and is a reproduction of Elizabethan designs. The centre features a shield, flanked by a serpent or mythical animal and a greyhound. Underneath there is some script. There is a crown above the shield and the top has an arched shape. The sides of the fire back are simple with bolt detail and a rope style border. The fire back is very thick and heavy and is ideal for use in a large fire place and paired with a fire basket. The cast iron has been blacked and polished and has a nice finish. The fire back is antique and has some signs of use and wear, as expected. There are some knocks and scratches. There is some pitting, roughness and some casting marks, especially to the sides. The back has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. It is rare to find a fire back of such a large size and it would make a fantastic show piece for a home. 

PLEASE NOTE: The fire back is extremely heavy (perhaps 100-120kg approx) and is COLLECTION ONLY. Please ensure you have a suitable vehicle and enough people to lift the fireback for collection.
