About this item
A very elegant, large, reclaimed cast iron fire surround dating to the Edwardian period. The fire surround has a lovely design, typical of the era, with fruit and swags within a panel on the crossbar and scrolling detail on either side of the panel. There is moulded detail that runs around the edges of the legs and under the decorative panel. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a good finish. The legs each have a fixing lug and there is a fixing lug on the left hand side, under the mantel, but the lug on the opposite side has broken off and is missing.
The surround is in good antique condition with some signs of use and age, as expected. The iron has some small knocks, especially to the mantel edges. The iron has some scratches and there are some casting marks and pitting. The mantel fixing screws do not sit totally flush with the mantel. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is of an impressive size and could be paired with a wood burner or a fire basket. The fire surround would make a fantastic period feature for a fireplace.
