About this item
A large and very elegant reclaimed cast iron fire surround dating to the Edwardian period, C.1900. The fire surround has a very pretty design, typical of the era, with bows, swags, flowers and a medallion on the crossbar. There is a repeating decorative border around the fire opening. The iron has been blacked and polished and has a good finish. There is a fixing lug on either side, under the mantel, for attaching the surround to the wall. The surround is in good antique condition with some small signs of use and age. The iron has some casting marks, indentations and pitting. There are some small knocks. The back of the surround has surface rust, as expected. Please see pictures for condition details. The fire surround is of a very good size and could be paired with a wood burner or a fire basket. The fire surround would make a fantastic period feature for a fireplace and its elegant design makes it very desirable.
