A large size decorative Swedish painted wall hanging (bonad)
Painted on canvas in natural pigments it depicts naive biblical themes that are so traditional of these folk hangings that would be displayed in the home ofen for special occasions.
However more unusually it is painted on both sides .
The earlier (late C18th) is in pale tones depicting angels in orange and blue, the later (early 19th) shows figures, horses and buildings painted in strong pigments in four sections.
