About this item
A early 19th Century Victorian Irish crystal Tazza or Comport dish. Superb quality lead crystal with a turnover rim, hollow air tear stem and pretty scalloped edge star cut base this piece was hand blown and hand cut Circa 1850. Designed to capture and reflect the candlelight in a dazzling display, these pedestal dishes were often filled with fruit or sweetmeats. They look pretty when not in use too.
Ireland's glass industry took off in the 18th Century, and the best glassmakers in England and Ireland (then part of Great Britain) created exquisite glassware known as Anglo Irish glass.
