Rare and unusual late 17th century French cushioned mirror with gilt metal frame with narrow pressed metal border of alternating flowers and acanthus leaves. Each corner of the mirror is decorated with interlacing flowers and foliage and has a central bird. The top section of the mirror, the "fronton", also has interlacing flowers and foliage with the addition of two mermen either side of the central bird. All the glass is original, mercury glass with age but the reflections are very good as you can see from the clarity of the carpet reflected in the bottom right corner in the close-up photograph! Understandably for a mirror of this age, there are losses, colour variation and old repairs to the frame.
