Antique French mirror with narrow gilt frame

19th century French rectangular mirror with narrow, watergilt frame decorated with a row of beading along the sight edge. Where the frame has been dusted for more than 100 years, the gilding has thinned, revealing the terracotta bole beneath and showing the thin gold lines where each sheet of the gold leaf slightly overlapped. The original glass has some age around the edges but nevertheless gives a very good reflection and this mirror can be hung portrait (as photographed) or landscape.
