About this item
A super games box made around 1800 by French prisoners of war housed on hulk boats on the Thames. This box has a cribbage marker board on the top; a domed lid which is hinged; an inner protective sliding cover - and a set of dominoes. Everything was made from pork bones from the kitchens on the boats and made for sale to passing people on the dockside - this was a way of occupying the prisoners - many of whome were skilled French joiners and cabinet makers who had been conscripted in to French navy.
