Top quality armorial counter with vine-and-moth border with the arms and crest of PETER DOBREE GOVERNOR OF GUERNSEY. Made circa 1810 with superb artwork. Peter Dobree had more than one set of counters - if you look in 'Deep-carved' you will see an even more detailed counter from another set he had made in Canton a little later. Clearly a lover of card-play and a very rich man with excellent taste!
