About this item
Rare style of counter made circa 1810 for Henry Dundas 1st.Viscount Melville. Large size and the very rare combination of 'wavy-edge' style and vine-and-moth border - this was not an off-the-peg order from Canton. Crest, coronet of a Viscount and motto with a superb full scene to the reverse. Dundas had two sets made at around the same time - as happened on occasions for the very rich - one for his main residence and another for a secondary home with less armorial detail. This counter falls into the second category!! Still in a large size, and beautifully decorated.
