About this item
A superb 19th Century giltwood overmantle mirror of large proportions. The original mercury glass plate with some mottling, is set within a beautifully shaped giltwood frame of rectangular form. The finely hand carved, moulded frame is richly decorated with c and s scrolls, ruffles and foliate. Surmounted with central pierced cartouche cresting with diamond pattern detail and further scrolls, ruffles and foliate carved in high relief. The shaped and moulded platform base with further ruffle, foliate and scroll motifs to each of the corners, terminating on ceramic spheres.
